Pre-arrival information for incomings

We have some important information about to-do list before coming to Hungary, especially for our Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship students, although there are important information also for other granted or own financing students:

What to do after accepting Admission Letter from Széchenyi István University?

- Arrival date: the semester begins at September 4, 2017. You are kindly asked to arrive in the period of September 1- 3, 2017. In case you arrive later, there will be no official punishment, but you need to consider, that the most important information regarding orientation, administration and study will be shared in the first days. If you miss to listen these information, you need to ask your classmates, or read and understand the instructions yourself.

- Passport: Make 
sure

- Visa: We send you the necessary documents by e-mail. If you need the original documents, please advise by answering the mail.
You can apply for Visa at the Hungarian Embassy or Consulate in your country/region, please check it: https://www.embassypages.com/hungary In case you need to contact your home country's Embassy/Consulate, you can use the same website for the availabilities.

Please note that after arrival you have to register in the Immigration Office in Győr (9026 Győr, Szövetség str. 15-17) in 3 days.

- Travel ticket: Confirm your programme’s start and end dates, accommodation’s availability and book your plane/train/bus ticket.

- Arrival information: After having your ticket, please inform your mentor student about your arrival: Date, time, way of arrival (plan/train/bus), Flight number (if you arrive by plane), arrival city. If you are a Stipendium Hungaricum student please fill this formule in order to provide you transfer from airport.

- Physical examination: Have a physical exam at least four weeks before departure and if appropriate, have a dental exam as well. It is a good idea to discuss with your doctor any concerns as they relate to your health abroad, including plans for taking medical prescriptions overseas if needed

- Health insurance: you have to buy health insurance for the travel and for the first week of the studies. The university will support the health insurance for you, during the study, if you are already a student of the university. So we can begin the insurance process on September 4, 2017 and it takes cca. 2-3 weeks, because we need the residence permit as well, which can be arranged by you, personally after your arrival. In order to be ensured also from the beginning, you are kindly required to buy health insurance at least for the first 2 weeks. Anyway the Hungarian Embassy needs also the health insurance for the visa process

After arrival general health insurance will be offered to you by the state or a partner insurance company of  Széchenyi István University, Győr (Insurance is paid only for Stipendium Hungaricum students by the University, for the other students has to be paid by their own).

- Housing: Take a look at the accomodation facilities on the site of the dormitories.  Make 
sure 
you 
have 
secured
 housing
 and
 know
 where
 to
 go 
upon
 arrival.


- Copies of documents: Take
 copies 
of 
your
 passport, visa (if
 applicable) and 
the 
health insurance
 card
 you 
will
 be
 using 
abroad 
with
 you
 and 
keep 
in 
a
 safe
 place, separated
 from 
your 
original 
documents.


- Credit/Bankcards: Credit/Bank cards, especially Visa, MasterCard and American Express, are widely accepted in Hungary, and you'll be able to use them at many restaurants, shops, hotels, car-rental firms, travel agencies and petrol stations. 


- Banking and Currency: Find out what fees your bank and banks in Hungary charge for transactions and plan to bring several forms of funds with you (i.e. credit cards, travellers checks, cash, etc). Consult currency conversion websites for currency exchange information before and while traveling

 - Emergency contacts: Make a list about your
 travel
 and 
emergency
 contacts and
 information. When
 you

identified
 your
 emergency

 person(s) in Hungary, 
you
 can
 update
 your
 list.

http://kollegium.sze.hu/en_GB/home-1. Please dont forget, You will get the pillow and the blanket, but not the sheets. You need to bring your own sheets with yourself!

International Office

Szechenyi Istvan University working hard to continually raise the level of its international activities.  In order to support this aim, the university founded the Center of International Programs, to aid and provide a comprehensive framework for  international (especially academic) affairs. The Office deals with international educational projects, students and staff mobility, bi- and multilateral agreements, and study in foreign languages.
